SAPCOTE’S Bruce Robinson scored a mid week double, winning both Lychgate Fisheries Wednesday Open and Higham Lane’s Thursday Open, weighing in over 200lbs of fish in the process!

After finishing second in the previous weeks Lychgate contest Bruce took the honours this week, weighing 82lb 14ozs of carp, caught on pole fished pellet from peg 52.

Paul Bates came second with a 77lb 8oz catch while Mick Wilson included over 20lb of bream in his third placed 57lb 5ozs.

The following day, he drew peg 17 at Higham Lane where he used similar tactics to land an impressive 133lb 7ozs to finish well clear of Terry Sanderson who weighed 58lb 11ozs for second place. Paul Gardner finished third with 49lb 7ozs.

The third round of Shackersto­ne’s Members Rising Sun sponsored Tuesday evening series was pegged along the Monthills. Ronnie Hodgson caught three bream and a tench to win with 7lb 4ozs. Geoff Taylor caught a tench and some small fish to weigh 3lb 12ozs while Ian Stone finished third with 2lb 8ozs. At the half way stage Dave Gill leads with 19 points, Pete Billington has 17 points and Kevin Milne has 14 points.

With Daniel Eaton’s remarkable winning run in Lychgate Fisheries Sunday Opens coming to an end, it was left to two of the venues top anglers to battle it out for top spot. At the scales Mark Sidwell took the honours with a 107lb 8oz catch from peg 50.

Having returned a single bream from his “Silver fish” net in order to use it for carp, Andy Findlays decision proved to be costly as he finish just 6ozs behind the winner with a 107lb 2oz catch. Third placed Terry Brindley included over 36lbs of bream in his 73lb 10oz catch while Steve Oswick finished fourth with 72lb 12ozs.

Ian Stripp landed a massive 240lb 4ozs of carp to 18lbs to win Lutterwort­hs match at Holmes Farm, taking all his fish on method feeder tactics. The top five all weighed over 100lbs with feeder tactics working best. Keith Vickers weighed 170lb 7oz to take second place, Colin Clarke finished third with 137lb 9oz, Micky Davis finished fourth with 123lb 15ozs while Barwell tackle dealer Phil Mansfield came fifth with 105lb 11ozs.

Higham Lane Fishery Wednesday evening match was won by Kevin Milne who fished bomb & pellet on peg 1 to weigh 74lb 7ozs. Mark Ward weighed 50lb 11oz to take second place while Callum Smith finished third with 41lb 7ozs.

Brookfield’s Second Barry Bennett Memorial match was fished at his favourite Stoke Golding Fishery and raised funds for the Parkinsons Uk Charity. Top on the day was Dave Armstrong who weighed 44lb 2ozs from peg 20. Danny Ross came second with 35lb while Ray Lewis finished third with a 32lb catch.

Measham’s Wednesday Evening Open series was fished along the Globe and Green Lane sections. Dave Callaghan weighed 7lb 6ozs of bream to win. Terry Smith weighed 4lb 5ozs for second place with Ian Baker taking third with 4lb 3ozs. Leading the league is Pete Allwood with 46 points, John Johnson has 33 points while Doug Dimbleby has 31points.

Darryl Moore took the honours in Mayne Lakes midweek Open.

There was another big turn out as the hot weather continued, but it was Darryl who mastered the difficult conditions, using a method feeder with a pole allowed him to place it tight to the island and he caught steadily through out the match, finishing with 44lb 7ozs. Results; Pool One, Winner; Alan Wilson 24lb 1ozs from peg 32. Pool Two, Winner; Darryl Moore from peg 12. Pool Three,Winner; Paul Haddock with 29lb 10z from peg 50.

Measham’s T. Walter’s Memorial Open fished on the canal around Snarestone, suffered from the heavy boat traffic, and despite the good midweek evening catches, anglers struggled for bites. Terry Smith needed just 1lb 7ozs of small fish to win, John wainwright came second with 14oz 8drams with Glen Morris finishing third with a level 14ozs.

With the river Avon at Ryton running low and clear and with temperatur­es rising Plough Angling’s latest match was always going to be difficult. Mick Durrant won with just 3lb 4oz of small chub. Ian Stringfell­ow finished second with 2lb 12ozs while Vince Kingham was third with 2lb 4ozs.

Higham Lane Fishery have an Open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches every Saturday, draw 9.15am and Sunday at 12 noon.

Measham Angling Club have an Members Away match this sunday, fishing the Coventry canal at Alvercote. Draw 8am at the Sam Barlow Pub, next to the canal.

Shackersto­ne have a members evening contest every Tuesday on the canal, draw 5.30pm in the Rising Sun car park.
