Special prize for scarecrow festival

A SPECIAL prize has been introduced to Heather’s annual scarecrow festival this year, just in time to celebrate its 20th anniversar­y.

A record number of schools and more than 70 residents have entered for this year’s events, which organisers have introduced the brand new prize for

To mark the anniversar­y and to acknowledg­e the lady who first introduced the festival, organisers will hand out the Di Everett Award, accompanie­d with an additional prize for the lucky winner.

The event is run by a small group of village volunteers, one of whom is Marina Brooks, who has been helping out for the last 10 years.

“We are really excited that the reached its 20th year,” she said.

“The residents put so much time and effort into their creations, and it’s rewarding to see all of the smiling faces when people come to visit us.

“We have over 3,000 likes on our Facebook page too, and it just keeps growing.”

Local sponsors from Candor Care in Coalville, Rebound trampoline park in Ashby and Bellway Homes, have all helped to raise funds for the free event, which runs from 11am on Sunday July 29 to Sunday August 5.

Parking is available at the festival, at no cost, either at Heather St John’s football club or the village hall, and a guide of £2 can be purchased for those who need a little extra help in finding their favourite scarecrows. festival has
