The Full Monty of shows at Belgrade

WITH the sun out and summer now well on its way, Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre is already gearing up for its autumn season as it prepares to host another packed lineup over the coming months.

Tickets have gone on sale for a whole host of exciting shows ranging from much-loved musicals to mesmerisin­g magic acts.

First up, from September 19-22, Regan De Wynter Williams bring one of Britain’s best-loved and sunniest musicals to the Belgrade Main Stage.

Following rave reviews and sell-out shows in Bath and London, Salad Days now heads out on tour, bringing Julian Slade’s and Dorothy Reynolds’ award-winning romp to Coventry audiences. Expect polite naughtines­s, saucy encounters and an energetic score from the show that famously inspired a sevenyear-old Cameron Mackintosh to fall in love with theatre.

On Saturday January 12, Britain’s Got Talent finalist Christian Lee is set to wow audiences with a night of mind-bending magic tricks, performed in his signature tongue-in-cheek style.

Boasting over 40 million hits on YouTube and a raft of awards, the so-called “King of Comedy Magic” will be joined on stage by some of the UK’s most exciting names in comedy and variety, including FISM World Magic Championsh­ips finalist Oliver Tabor, TV magician Max Somerset, multi-award-winner Richard Griffin and ventriloqu­ist and fellow Britain’s Got Talent finalist Steve Hewlett.

From January 11-19, get ready for a brand new series of live music acts, with top tributes to pop acts from across the decades.

On Friday January 11, award-winning band The Bluejays will take audiences on a journey through the fabulous fifties with their Rock and Roll Revolution show. From the early days of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash to the hey- day of Little Richard and Connie Francis, expect classic hits like Rock Around the Clock, Jailhouse Rock, Johnny B. Goode, Tutti Frutti and Great Balls of Fire.

On Saturday January 12, leading Bob Marley tribute band Legend return with another celebratio­n of reggae music’s greatest star. In this fantastic stage extravagan­za, a superb cast of seven recreate the distinctiv­e vocals, flawless musiciansh­ip and natural charisma that brought Bob Marley internatio­nal acclaim.

On Wednesday January 16, singing sensation Jodie Jackson will recreate the greatest hits of the Queen of Pop, Madonna. Incredible vocals, stunning choreograp­hy and video footage are combined with fascinatin­g facts and little known stories as Material Girl looks back on the singer’s incredible 35-year career.

Following a hugely popular performanc­e at the Belgrade in 2017, The Little Mix Experience returns to the Theatre on Saturday January 19 with another thrilling, high-energy show. Expect breathtaki­ng dance moves, replica costumes and excellent vocals in this tribute to one of the UK’s finest girl bands, suitable for audiences of all ages.

Completing Sweeney Entertainm­ents’ music double-bill on Saturday January 19 is The Best of Queen, starring the sensationa­l tribute band Flash. Italian-born frontman Claudio Desideri makes an uncanny match for Freddie Mercury.

On Thursday January 24, Olivier Award winners OperaUpClo­se return with another reinvented operatic classic.

Following their bold reimaginin­g of The Magic Flute in May, this dynamic young company now bring their innovative approach to bear on Puccini’s masterpiec­e, Madam Butterfly. Performed by a diverse cast of singers and musicians, this groundbrea­king new English translatio­n retells the story from a female, East Asian perspectiv­e, and will premiere at the Belgrade before transferri­ng to London for a four-week run at the Arcola Theatre.

Finally, from Monday February 25 until Saturday March 2, Sheffield Theatres present the hilarious and heartwarmi­ng story of six out-of-work steelworke­rs in a new production of the internatio­nal smash hit The Full Monty. Adapted by Oscar-winning writer Simon Beaufoy from his phenomenal­ly successful film, this comedy show has rapidly become one of Britain’s most successful stage shows, receiving a slew of standing ovations and a prestigiou­s UK Theatre Award.

This “chuffing brilliant” version features an all-star cast including Gary Lucy, Andrew Dunn, Louis Emerick, Joe Gill, Kai Owen and James Redmond.
