Eleanor takes county U16 racing title
A SCHOOLGIRL from Market Bosworth has been crowned Leicestershire Cyclo-Cross champion in the girls under-16 category.
Year 10 pupil Eleanor Partridge, from Dixie Grammar School, has been racing in Cyclo-Cross since she was 10, mainly in the West Midlands.
She joined a new league which started in Leicestershire in 2017 with six venues across the county, and now holds the title for the 2017/2018 season.
The racing attracts around 450 riders per event from across the East Midlands with races for under-9s to the veterans of over 70.
Points are awarded for the finish position per race category, with the person with the most points crowned champion at the end of the season.
The trophy was presented to Eleanor at an awards evening organised by Dean Barnett, who runs the Leicestershire events.
Eleanor’s success in and enjoyment of Cyclo-Cross has led to the sport being promoted to younger students at Dixie Grammar Junior School.
Year 5 pupils had a taster session with a British Cycling instructor, organised by Hinckley and Bosworth Sports Partnership.
During the session, the children learnt how best to work as a team and completed an Italian pursuit race.
This session was preparation for the local Inter Schools event.
Two Dixie teams went to the event and competed in an Individual Relay and Italian Pursuit.
They came in second and sixth place out of 10 teams in their events, missing out on first place by a mere two seconds.
