AS the NHS celebrate 70 years of service, the Air Ambulance also reach a momentous milestone of more than 35,000 missions.

In the flight to save lives, The Air Ambulance service carry out daily and nightly missions covering almost four thousand miles.

For the last 15 years, the Service has worked alongside the NHS, to help to deliver the highest levels of healthcare to the nation.

“We are immensely proud to support and work alongside the National Health Service,” says Richard Clayton, Director of Operations at the Air Ambulance Service.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in reaching these milestones.

“We are funded entirely through donations and proud that we do not cost the NHS a penny, therefore a huge thankyou must go to our supporters who have contributed so much to so many lives.”

The Air Ambulance Service helps to reduce the burden on the NHS and public purse by providing its vital services free of charge, something that Deputy Clinical Lead at the Service, Justin Squires, believes is at the heart of the charity.

“We employ our world-leading clinicians directly, rather than through secondment from the NHS as we believe in supporting and not burdening them,” he adds.

“I’m very proud to work with the NHS, the hospitals, the ambulance services, and, of course, the people who have made saving lives their calling.”
