Appeal for foodbank donations

-

HINCKLEY Area Foodbank is urgently appealing for people to commit to making donations.

Project leaders are urging people to become Foodbank Partners and buy two to three items eack week and drop them off at one of the collection points.

Colin Figures, chair of trustees, said “Nearly all of the food we are able to provide is donated by our supporters.

“Our stocks of foods are continuing to go out to clients faster than we have been able to replenish them, and we’re now struggling with empty shelves.

“We desperately need to collect more basic foodstuffs.

“Families needing help will find it especially difficult during the summer holidays when some children are not able to get their usual free school meals.”

Among the key stock items needed are tinned meat and fish, tinned milk and fruit juice, rice pudding and custard, tinned fruit, instant drinking chocolate and coffee.

Basic toiletries such as deodorants, shower gell, shampoos and toilet rolls are also needed.

Collection points are available in Asda, Morrisons and Tesco Supermarkets in Hinckley, and the Co-op in Burbage.

Most churches in the area support the Foodbank, as well as the Vine Christian Bookshop behind the United Reformed Church.

Money donations can be sent to the Foodbank Office at Hope Community Church in Hinckley
