Six of the best from Verow as Earl Shilton take victory

HAVING won the toss and electing to bat first, Earl Shilton Town made a positive start against Loughborou­gh Town moving to 46 until the loss of Holmes(25) brought Phillips to the crease.

Phillips and opener Lester put on an excellent second wicket stand of 116 until Lester departed for a well made 64.

Phillips and Payne (23) then gave the innings further momentum with a 50 part- nership taking the score to 220-3. Phillips holding out at deep long for an excellent 83 as he looked to hit his second maximum of the innings.

Earl Shilton’s innings closed on a competitiv­e 242-4 in their 45 overs.

In response Loughborou­gh started well with the ball and in the field with all rounder Kyle Chamberlai­n (1-43) bowling well on his return to the club. The bowling unit working well to limit the number of boundaries and build pressure on Loughborou­gh’s batsmen as the required rate continued to climb. The bowlers were backed up by an excellent team fielding performanc­e.

In addition to Chamberlai­n, Crouch(2-45), J Stock(123), and captain Hawkins all bowled well.

However it was Tom Verow who stole the headlines com- ing on at the pavlion end taking six wickets. He cam on with good pace and accuracy to bowl all six victims. Verow finishing with excellent figures of 6-33 in 11.3 overs.

Loughborou­gh Town were bowled out in the 45th over with the score on 195, with Earl Shilton recording a 47 run victory.

Town will be looking to build on this away win next Saturday at Keats Lane against Sileby Town.

Earl Shilton Town 2nd XI lost by 52 runs to Walton-LeWolds CC on Saturday at Keats Lane. Having elected to field first, Town restricted their visitors to 232 for 6 in the 45 overs with S Kettle scoring 75 for the visitors.

Depsite 51 from club stalwart Howard Verow and 42 from Gibson, Town fell short ending on 180 all out in the 42nd over.
