Amateurs 69 all out in loss

HINCKLEY Amateur Cricket Club had another disappoint­ing defeat as they lost to promotion rivals Leicester Ivanhoe at Ashby Road. The Amateur batsmen had no answer to the Ivanhoe pace attack as they were skittled for just 69 with only Andy Wainscott showing any resistance, unbeaten on 39. Mark Shortland, with 6-36, and Nial Lafferty (4-32) did the damage.

Mick Butterwort­h took two wickets in reply but the Ivanhoe eased home by seven wickets.

Defeat still leaves Amateur top of the division but the chasing pack have all caught up as they travel to thirdplace­d Kirby Muxloe.

Amateur 2nd put up a brave performanc­e against league leaders Anstey and Glenfield as they lost by four wickets.

The second string had a poor start as they slumped to 67-6 but Paul Ensor, with a fine 60, and Matt Brazier (27) led the recovery to post 169-6.

The hosts lost early wickets with the in-form Haj Gill taking 3-44 but rallied and got home in the 34th over.

Amateur 3rds also lost but took promotion seeking County Officers to the wire at Swallows Green.

Richard Stanford, with 38, and Winnie Thompson (43) got the Amateur to a good start, but slumped from 100-3 to 130 all out. Cliff Pardoe with 5-27 had the visitors in trouble at 78-7 but they chipped away at the total to get home by two wickets.
