Rail survey follows complaints
AN MP is to write to all householders in two villagers asking for theit views on rail services and facilities at their railway station.
Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire, said he has “long received complaints about the services offered from Narborough station, from the lack of a ticket machine on the platform to overcrowded peak-time trains”.
He said: “This is a vital opportunity for constituents in Littlethorpe and Narborough to have their voices heard, no matter how often they use the trains, to help shape the future services and the range of facilities available at the station.”
Mr Costa, who has been working alongside the Friends of Narborough Station (Fons) community group, will send the survey to almost 7,000 residents of Narborough and Littlethorpe with a range of questions asking for their views on how the rail services and facilities offered from Narborough station can be improved for constituents and rail users.
John Harrison, chairman of Fons, said: “I am delighted with the support Fons is getting from our MP.
“There is clearly a need for a better service to be provided at the station in order to avoid the sometimes overcrowding of trains. Commuters are paying a high price to stand in some cases throughout the whole of their journeys.
“Alongside rail service improvements, Fons is also keen to identify how users would like to see passenger facilities upgraded and so any suggested ideas will be most welcome”.
Mr Costa said, “As the only railway station in my South Leices- tershire constituency, Narborough is a hugely important infrastructure hub for the community.”
“I am immensely grateful to Fons for its assistance and local knowledge in creating this survey and I hope constituents won’t mind just taking a few moments of their time to complete the survey and share their views to help shape the future of their local railway station. I very much look forward to seeing the completed surveys in October”.
The survey will posted out to all residents on the electoral roll in Narborough and Littlethorpe, It can be returned by being posted into boxes at Narborough railway station, the Bread Box, Tesco, Narborough post office, Select Convenience, Carlton Stores and, in Littlethorpe, the Plough and the Old Inn.
