A LOCAL charity is on the lookout for new volunteers to help out in-store and during weekly outings.

Hinckley Mencap, on Hill Street, is a long running charity for local people with learning disabilities.

The store sells cards for all occasions, clothing, games and jigsaws amongst other items, as well as being a social meeting place for adults with learning difficulties.

Mencap currently has the help of between 50 and 70 volunteers, with some offering their free support for just an hour a week, where others offer more.

Volunteers are a huge part of the store, whether helping out with the social clubs, or escorting the groups from their various after-club nights.

The charity is calling for more people to dedicate their time to helping local people, and are encouraging those interested to get in touch.

You can visit the store on Hill Street, or call the office number on 01455 637312 or the shop number on 01455 233093. AN engimatic IT wizard who staged a blackmail campaign against his own employers deserved his hefty sentence, a judge has ruled.

Christopher Read, 23, sent 26 menacing emails to staff at Tek4, based in Oadby, Leicester, London’s Appeal Court heard.

He demanded “ransoms” totalling £200,000 in Bitcoins, and “persistently targeted” the managing director, Jason Duffin.

“This persistent targeting caused Mr Duffin to fear for his and his family’s safety,” said Mrs Justice Simler.

He threatened to destroy crucial company data by infecting it with a destructive e-virus.
