Marathon event in the city

-

THOUSANDS of runners will flood the streets of Leicester in October as part of this year’s Leicester Marathon, Half Marathon and Cummins Relay Challenge.

The Annual event takes place on Sunday 14th October starting and finishing at Leicester’s Victoria Park from 8.45am.

Race Director Andrew Ward said: “The marathon is getting more popular every year and is arguably one of the biggest running events in the area with almost 4,000 runners set to race this year.

“It really is a fantastic event for the city and we’d love for as many people as possible to come out and cheer the runners on and soak up the atmosphere on the day on the finish line in Victoria Park.”

The route, which is divided into a full and half marathon will run through the city centre, up Melton Road and through Watermead Park, with the full marathon runners taking in some the wonderful countryside of rural Leicestershire.

Road closures will be put in place on the day around the city and you can check if you will be affected by visiting the marathon’s website at www.leicestermarathon. org.uk/road- closures.

“We are really looking forward to the event, however are still looking for volunteers to help marshal at various points around the route. If you can spare some time please do get in touch.” added Andrew.
