Ballet classes for youngsters

-

A PROFESSIONAL dancer from Burbage has launched weekly ballet sessions each Sunday for pupils of varying ability.

Former Leicester College pupil Kim Bamford began her career as a professional dancer and for eight years danced in musical theatre, pantomimes, and on television, spending the majority of her career aboard popular cruise ships.

When her professional career came to an end, Kim (33) decided she wanted to teach ballet and eventually open her own school, she chose the Royal Academy of Dance as ballet was her favourite discipline and she says that RAD is considered to be the best in the industry.

After auditioning for their Professional Dancers Teaching Diploma, Kim successfully qualified in 2014 and has now launched her own weekly sessions.

“I chose to open on a Sunday as there are a lot of dance schools in the area that are all open on a Saturday,” says Kim.

“I just felt it would give people that can’t commit to a Saturday an opportunity to go dancing on a Sunday instead.

“I have opened the classes up to dancers from other schools to give them a chance to study RAD with myself to further their training in order to make them better dancers.”

Kim is currently offering three entry levels for students to join her classes.

The first class is for preschool entrants, following the Academy’s Dance to your own Tune curricu- lum, for pupils aged twoand-a-half to five.

The second for pre-primary dancers, learning an introduction to the Royal Academy of Dance’s syllabus, and the last class for students who have previous experience in ballet or are older and have chosen to start dance.

Classes will take place at Studio17, in Hinckley.

The first class will commence at 10am to 10.45am, the second at 11am to 11.45am and the third from 12noon to 1pm.

No joining fee is required, classes should be paid on a term basis following the three school terms a year.
