Hinckley and District Sunday League round up

-

ROGUE Elite ran out 10-3 winners against the Dog and Gun FC in the Premier Division which leaves Rogue top of the table. Dog and Gun goals came from Stephen Heard, Leon Simmons and Richard Jones.

The start to life back in the Premier Division has been difficult for Wykin who were on the wrong end of a 7-1 loss to Plough Inn Bruntingthorpe, this being the Plough’s first ever win over Wykin.

The only other game in the Premier Division saw Topps start their title defence with a 2-1 victory over Ullesthorpe, Nathan Astill with Topps’ goals with the Ullesthorpe reply coming from Max Proudlock.

Stoke Golding put a bad start of two losses behind them to beat Coalville Miners 8-3 in Division 1. Thurlaston Magpies turned on the style at the Anchor Inn to come out 10-1 winners at home.

The Star Inn prevailed in the game at New Street, beating Stoneycroft United Firsts 3-0. Ryan Williams took advantage of some poor defending from a long throw to give the visitors the lead. A few minutes later Jake Gardner curled a lovely free kick over the Stoneycroft wall. Stoneycroft had opportunities to get back into the game but poor finishing cost them. Jake Gardner then received a red card and The Star Inn closed ranks to shut out the home team.

The game was rounded off by a long range effort from Ben Spicer that every man and his dog thought was heading for the car park, only for the wind to catch it and nestle it just under the crossbar.

The Red Lion revolution continued on Sunday with a 4-2 victory over TC Building. Jonno Fields, Alex Ball, John Maxwell and Liam Clark with the Red Lion’s goals, Andrew Lewin and Dan- iel Toone with TC Building’s. Stoneycroft United Reserves struggled away to SS Bulls Head losing out 9-3. A Reece Cotton wonder volley was the pick of the goals for the visitors backed up by Stephen Blighton and Jay Locking.

Joshua Atkinson and Tom Macey both got a brace with Kyle Andrews, Peter Stanbridge and Joe Wright adding one a piece, the old guard of Dave Leeson and Darren Page also chipped in with a goal each. Goals from David Ciarkowski, Damien Haswell and MAtthew Wright couldn’t provide a win for AFC Barn who were beaten 6-3 by the Tin Hat. The Tin Hat kept their 100% record in the league after coming from 1-0 down from a Stuart Heathcote header.

They then went 2-1 down before levelling again, this time through the first of three Sam Knowles goals. Sam got his second of the game putting the Tin Hat 3-2 up. The Barn briefly drew level again before Alex Tustain bagged to make it 4-3. After missing an easy chance Sam Knowles righted his wrong by making it five for the Tin Hat and three for him.

The win was rounded off by a Stuart Heathcote 38 yard free kick.
