Back to back promotion for Hinckley Amateurs

-

AMATEURS achieved back to back promotions after they earned enough bonus points in there abandoned game at Houghton and Thurnby.

With rain forecast the home side batted first and were soon in trouble as the Amateur openers took early wickets with Alan York with 3-34 and Ash Harrison 2-24 putting the village side on the back foot.

Jamie Harris-Ensor with 4-28 and Mick Butterworth then cleaned up the rest of the batsman to leave them bowled out for just 104.

Rain fell heavily at tea and the umpires decided no further play was possible. Despite Egerton Park (their nearest rivals) winning, the bonus points the Amateurs earned were enough to clinch their fourth promotion in six years up to division 1.

The Ashby Road clubhouse was rocking on Saturday night as Skipper Ash Harrison praised his side.

He said: “After being promoted in 2017, our aim this season was to avoid relegation but after getting on a roll by winning the first 13 games we stuttered later in the season and were finally glad to get over the line.

“Despite being a young team most of the lads have been playing together for a number years and the team spirit really shows on and off the pitch with everyone in the team contributing a match winning performance, and everyone at the club in the 2nds , 3rds and the juniors all contributing to the success.”
