OVER £600 was raised for Charity by anglers fishing the annual Mick Varley Memorial match at Higham Lane Fishery. Dave Henry took the honours for the second year running, weighing 68lb 11ozs from peg 20. Dave landed four near double figure carp from his margin peg in the last fourty minutes to go from zero to hero ! Alan Grewcock and Pete Eden tied for second place, both weighing 60lbs.

The sixth round of the Pete Hogg Memorial series was fished along the Monthills section at Shackersto­ne. Inform Ashby Canal legend Doug Dimbleby drew the Golden Peg, and made no mistake to finish well clear with a 7lb 2oz catch of bream. Dave Callaghan caught a bream and some small fish to finish second with 2lb 14ozs while third placed Hubert Noar included a 2lb zander in his 2lb 10oz catch. With two rounds still remaining Doug Dimbleby has already got the maximum total of 20 points. Graham Whyte is second with 13 points. John Wainwright is third with 11 points.

Big Catch specialist Max Higgott put in another winning performanc­e in Lychgate’s Sunday Open. Drawn on peg 26, Max fished the margins to catch steadily throughout the match, finishing well clear with a 97lb 6oz catch of carp. Luke Winstanley came second with 69lb 2ozs from peg 52 while Steve Brindley finished third with 68lb.

Shackersto­ne’s Arthur Clarke Memorial Open match was fished on the Populars length, although the bream failed to show there were plenty of small perch, roach and rudd willing to feed. Pete Billington took the honours with a 4lb 11ozs catch. Doug Dim- bleby came second with 3lb 14ozs. Ian Plant was third with 2lb 14ozs.

There was a good turn out for Maynes Lakes mid week Open where strong winds made sport difficult. Darryl Moore fished a method feeder with a pole to catch the days top weight of 44lb 12ozs. Results; Pool One, Winner; Darryl Moore peg 41. Pool Two, Winner; Jamie Horler, 36lb 1ozs, peg 10.

There was a second 100lb + catch in as many weeks for Paul Bates, as he won Lychgate Fisheries Wednesday Open. Drawn on peg 41 Paul switched baits and tactics to catch 103lb of carp plus 21lbs of “Silvers” to finish with 124lb 2ozs. Andy Findlay drew the Golden Peg, but for once just came up short, finishing second with 97lb 14ozs. Robin Duffy finished third with 68lb 2ozs.

Brookfield­s Open match at Stoke Golding was won by Stu Campton with a 26lb 12oz catch from peg 16. Ray Lewis finished second with 22lb 6ozs while Martin Woodward came third with 11lb. Next Open will be on October 7th.

After struggling for most of the day in Lychgates Saturday Open match Mark Sidwells “filled in” his margin peg, the gamble paid off as he went on to land eight big carp to win with a 68lb 13oz catch. Craig Owen finished second with 43lb 15ozs while Ian Shirley came third with 35lb 10ozs.

Higham Lane’s Thursday Open was won by Andy Findlay from peg 7. Andy used a pole to swing a method feeder under a tree to catch 126lb 11ozs Pete Jupp finished second with a 108lb 9ozs catch from peg 13. John Varley came third with 66lb 9ozs.

There was another win in Friday’s Fine Line Silver Fish Open at Lychgate Fisheries for Paul Bates who weighed 26lb 10ozs from peg 5. John Hanson came second with 17lb 9ozs while Kevin Folwell finished third with 13lb 8ozs.

Higham Lane have an Open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have a Silver Fish Open every Friday, draw 9am. On Saturday there’s the usual Open, draw 9am then on Sunday there’s another Open, draw at 12 noon.

Because Measham’s Away day contest scheduled for this Sunday has been cancelled, Shackersto­ne have arranged an Open match instead. Draw 9am at the Rising Sun.

Maynes Lakes have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.

Lychgate Fisheries have an Open match every Wednesday, draw 9am.
