Langham scores four as LRFC come from behind to win

-

HINCKLEY’S Leicester Road FC secured a comprehensive 5-1 home win over Littleton FC at the weekend – with striker Matty Langham bagging himself four goals!

But it all started poorly for the Road when after just 3 mins they were a goal down after some sloppy play gave the Littleton centre forward too much time and he finished well off the inside of the post.

Three quick goals redeemed fire it for LRFC, however, and they were all scored by Langham who got his hat-trick in a clinical 20 minute period from the Road that effectively sealed the game.

The first was a lovely turn and shot away from the edge of the box after being set up by Nat Kelly; for his second he latched onto a probing cross from the right and buried it in the bottom corner, while the third saw Langham cleverly deceive the keeper - as he rushed out - and finish with aplomb.

The Road had a healthy lead at half time and probably should have been a couple more ahead, but credit to Littleton they began the second half with a more direct and higher press approach – and LRFC were forced to doggedly defend their lead for the opening 10 mins.

They managed to gain control again, however, and the fourth was well taken by midfielder Joseph Lyne who played a defence splitting one-two with debutant striker Mark Green, continued his run into the box and hit it first time to give the Littleton keeper no chance.

Now in cruise control again, LRFC secured a fifth from the penalty spot - won by defender Simon Alcott, who hit a fierce drive from the right that was ‘saved’ by the last defender on the line, with the keeper well beaten.

Langham duly despatched it low to his left for his fourth, but there was no surprisingly no card – yellow or red – for the deliberate hand ball?

Youngster Ben Humphreys again came on for the last 10 mins and he beat the offside trap almost instantly, unselfishly squared it for Jordan Burrows (leaving the away keeper stranded) but Burrows somehow miscued and it flashed wide of the target.

Starting X1: Will Highland, Jordan Burrows, Simon Alcott, Callum Earls, Nathaniel Kelly, Jack Harrison, Marlon Walters ©, Mylan Charles, Joseph Lyne, Mark Green, Matt Langham. Subs: Ricky Blewitt (GK), Callum Rudd, Ben Humphreys, Nick Hawkins.
