Proposal to demolish pub to make way for six houses
A PUB next to Thornton reservoir could be demolished and replaced with six houses.
The Reservoir Inn at 286 Main Street could be replaced with three sets of semidetached three-bedroom properties, with six parking spaces.
A planning statement by Landmark Planning was filed with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
It said that redeveloping the 0.15 hectare site as a residential area would be “a considerable benefit to the occupiers of neighbouring residential dwellings in terms of noise and disturbance and thus residential amenity”.
It said: “The proposed access drive would see some improvement of the existing vehicular access into the site and would be considered safe and suitable for all people.
“The proposed development of six dwellings is unlikely to result in any increase in vehicular movements to the site when compared to the existing use of the site as a Public House and car park.”
The pub car park is currently made up of 20 spaces.
The statement further said the loss of a community facility is acceptable as there is another pub and a Working Men’s Club in Thornton.
A survey was also carried out to see if there were any bats or other wildlife living in the pub’s roof.
No evidence of roosting bats was found and the report said the building would be classed as of limited wildlife value.
