Children’s charity appeals for new members

ONE of Market Bosworth’s leading children’s charities is appealing for new committee members to help with organising events and fundraisers.

Members of the Market Bosworth division of the NSPCC’s North Warwickshire and West Leicestershire Branch are looking for help in generating ideas for events that will boost donations for the charity.

The branch was formed over 100 years ago in 1897, and has since raised more than £100,000 for The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children charity, who campaign and work in child protection across the UK and Channel Islands.

Committee member Veronica Sutton said the role would require new members to meet every two or three months.

She said: “We would like to attract some younger members as the rest of us are getting older.

“The committee currently organises fundraising events such as coffee mornings and lunches.

“The ideal situation would be to attract a younger group of committee members who can organise their own events - we don’t have to be involved in that. If they want to organise a sponsored walk for example the existing committee would be very happy for them to do that.

“We are looking for young people with enthusiasm, the ability to organise things, and commitment – with an appreciation for the charity.”

Veronica said that the committee has an important role in the local area, and with the right additions, has a brightfuture.Sheadded:“We get a lot of support for the NSPCC. It is a charity that should be at the forefront of people’s minds.

“I have been a member for over 20 years but I remember doing door to door collections with my grandmother for the NSPCC.

“I had a great upbringing and my children have as well so I wanted to help those in a less fortunate position – it can be very rewarding.

“Enthusiasm breeds enthusiasm and if we get three or four young people who are enthusiastic I can see a very bright future for the branch.”
