Dial-a-ride needs new volunteers

-

HINCKLEY and Bosworth Community Transport team are seeking the help of volunteers who could offer their time to help with their new Dial-a-Ride service.

The service was set up to allow those people who are less mobile, and limited on their travels, to be able to make necessary appointments or social trips at their leisure, enabled through volunteers who can provide a ride.

Unfortunately, some people still do not have access to public transport, whether this is because they do not live on a bus route or have lost the ability to use public transport without help, and this is something that the District’s Community Transport wish to change, to make outings inclusive for everyone.

A spokesperson from the Community Transport team said: “What if we have no family or friends who can take us to all the places we need to go?

“If we cannot do those things anymore, life would become very difficult and we may become depressed and lonely.

“We are likely to becoming housebound and inactive in mind and body.”

The Dial-a-Ride service enlists the help of volunteers who use their own cars to take local people who, for a variety of reasons, can- not use public transport for essential everyday journeys.

Drivers will be reimbursed for their mileage, so the only cost is their time.

The spokesperson added: “Volunteers give as much or as little time as they want, on a regular or flexible service.

“Drivers need a roadworthy care, a valid driving license, current insurance, a telephone and to enjoy meeting people and helping them out.”

If you live in Hinckley and Bosworth and would consider joining the service, to help make a difference to someone’s life, then call 01455 250462 or visit the website at www.handbct.org.uk.
