Hinckley fight hard but are overcome by Ernesford

-

HINCKLEY A were away to Ernesford A this week for what is always a tough netball match.

Hinckley started off well and on form shooting from Holly Hemsley and Carole Payne ensured Hinckley had a one goal lead at the first quarter.

Hinckleys momentum continued in the second quarter going goal for goal with Ernesford with some great court play from defence through to attack. The third quarter saw Hinckley having to battle against the wind to get the goals and despite continued pressure from the Hinckley defence, Ernesford managed to gain a four goal lead going into the final quarter. Hinckley continued to fight hard into the fourth quarter with some great turnovers in defence and hard working attacking, however it was not enough to make the comeback with Ernesford securing the win 38 - 31. Player of the match was Ashleigh Oakes at Goal Defence. B team Hinckley B team were happy to be playing their first home fixture of the season, with a good crowd to support them.

In warm, but very windy conditions, both teams had to adapt their play. Hinckley played patiently, building up passes and working the ball down court. Good use of overlapping play made sure Hinckley maintained possession until the ball could be delivered to the shooters.

A very tight Rugby Railway B defence made it hard work though, and were applying constant pressure, forcing outer edge shooting which was difficult in the wind. At half time though, there were only five goals between the teams. Unfortunately for Hinckley B team, the second half saw Rugby Railway increase their lead. No matter what Annis and Steph did in defence the GS for the opposition was unstoppable. Defence fought until the end but sadly it wasn’t enough. Final score 35-48 to Rugby Railway B.
