NKF win through to next round of FA Vase

-

AND so the wonderful journey that NKF Burbage are on continues and no one involved with the club is in any hurry for it to come to an end anytime soon and they are clearly enjoying every minute of it and why not.

The latest chapter saw the club defeat Bustleholme 4-1 in the first round proper of the FA Vase.

Such was the interest in the little club from Burbage that an extra coach packed with their travelling faithful also headed for York Road Sports and Social in Rowley Regis. And this was in addition to a number of supporters that made their own way over to the ground.

Burbage were not there to just enjoy their day out they were clearly wanting to get the job done and get themselves in the hat for the second round.

There was a gusty wind that was favouring the goal to the left.

Burbage played against this wind in the first half. If there were any nerves on the Burbage camp Jake Brown settled them down somewhat within 45 seconds when he calmly slotted home.

Bustleholme had a number of chances but they could not get past Hill who made a number of good, crucial saves in the first 25 minutes. Burbage found the Bustleholme keeper in as good, if not better form. He made a number of quality saves with the pick of them in the first half denying Smith.

It was Smith who was involved in the 31st minute when he was dragged down in the box and with no attempt made to play the ball the referee had no choice but to send the defender off. Adcock stepped up to double Burbage’s lead.

Brown added his second of the day, Barwick powered forward and slipped Adcock in who fired it across goal for Brown to finish on the half volley. Bustleholme were given a life line when Bradshaw dived in and got nowhere near the ball inside the box, the penalty was put away to make it 3-1 to Burbage.

Matt Burt put the icing on the cake with a good finish in the 92nd minute to make the final score 4-1.

Bustleholme battled really well for nearly an hour with 10 men but it was Burbage who were in the hat on Monday morning when the second round draw was made, they have themselves another away tie this time travelling to Stourport Swifts on the 3rd November who ply their trade in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

It’s just another chapter in this wonderful story.
