Findlay finishes top in close result at Higham Lane event

JUST 6ozs separated the top three anglers in a very close Higham Lane Thursday Open match. Leading the way, just, was that man Andy Findlay. Drawn on peg 13 Andy switched between the pole and pellet feeder tactics to land a winning 66lb 10ozs. Second place went to Andy Stewart who fished a waggler close in on peg 5 to land 66lb 6ozs. Alan Grewcock finished third from peg 2 with a 66lb 4oz catch.

There were wild and windy conditions for Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open. Fishing on peg 49 Paul Bates caught when ever the wind dropped, and finished well clear with a winning 79lb 12oz catch. Terry Brindley came second from peg 29 with 36lb 11ozs while Steve Brindley finished third with 21lb 8ozs.

The first round of Shackersto­nes Winter League series sponsored by Onstyle Lifting was fished along the Horse & Jockey Straight. Inform Kev “Scissor Hands” Milne won for the second successive Sunday, catching 3lb 2ozs of perch on worm. Hubert Noar caught small bream and roach to take second place with 2lb 14ozs while Ian Plant finished third with 1lb 11ozs.

Switching between the far bank and the margins paid off for Chris Edwards who took the honours in Wednesday’s Maynes Lakes Open with a 32lb 10oz catch. Results; Pool One, First; Tom Watt 29lb 3ozs, peg 34. Pool Two First; Chris Edwards peg 22. Pool Three First; Colin Bent 24lb 12oz peg 43.

Less than 1lb separated the top two in Wednesday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match. Leading the way from peg 49 was Glyn Davies with a 31lb 2oz catch of bream and carp. Inform Paul Bates claimed second place with 30lb 6ozs, while Robin Duffy came third with 23lb 8ozs.

Lutterwort­h travelled to Holmes Farm where despite the heavy all day rain the top six all returned 100lb plus catches. Darryl Moore took the honours with a 168lb carp catch.

Martin Smith was second with 151lb 1ozs while Ian Stripp finished third with138lb 15ozs.

It was a miserable Sunday for those fishing Plough Angling club’s contest on the river Avon at Ryton. Not only was the weather bad but catches were low as well. Paul Sterne needed just 4lb 14o;zs of small fish from peg 44 to win. George Howe included three perch in his second place 2lb 10oz catch. Vince Kingham finished third with 2lb 5ozs.

Sunday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open match was fished in far from perfect conditions. A cold day with heavy rain made sport difficult. Paul T Twigger fished bomb and pellet on peg 43 to catch a winning 69lb 10ozs. Steve Brindley finished second with a 44lb 6oz catch from peg 38 with Terry Brindley taking third place with a 21lb 14oz catch.

Varley’s Vultures dominated Saturday’s Open match on Lake 4 at Makin’s Fishery taking the top three places. Leading the way was John Varley who caught seven fish from peg 11 to weigh 40lb 6ozs. Mark Robinson came second with 34lb 9ozs while Clive Oliver finished third with 32lb 9ozs.

Higham Lane Fishery have an Open match every Thursday draw 9am, the Winter Saturday Open series starts this Saturday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have their Fine Line Friday silver fish Open, draw 9am.

The Open match on Saturday has a 9am draw while Sunday’s Open match has a 11am draw.

Meashan have a members Away day contest on the Coventry Canal at Alvecote. Draw 8am at the Sam Barlow Pub, which is by the canal.

Mayne lakes have Open matches every Wednesday. Draw 10am.
