Tea, fish and chips is secret of a long life says Vera aged 106
A nice cup of tea and fish and chips is the secret to a long and happy life according to 106-year-old Vera Adams.
The Hinckley House resident recently celebrated her 106th birthday in style, with a pampering session and manicure at the Tudor Road home before heading out for lunch with her friends.
The birthday girl was also surprised with a celebratory party, balloons, decorations and cheers as she returned home before opening a special gift from a very important lady.
A telegram was sent from the Queen as well as one from the Houses of Parliament, both congratulating Vera on her achievement as well as hundreds of people from across the UK who took to Facebook to wish her a happy birthday after the care home posted about the mammoth celebration.
Hinckley House Home manager, Paul Botham, said: “Vera is a wonderful lady and we are very privileged that she is part of our family here at Hinckley House.”
A spokesperson for the home described how the party quickly got into full swing with some entertainment from local vocalist Gyn Morley as well as a visit by Jan Kirby, the local Mayor and Mike Kirby, her consort who also arrived to wish Vera many happy returns.
The celebration ended as Vera was presented with flowers and chocolates before she cut into her birthday cake which had been made by the care staff.
The spokesperson added: “Vera was smiling throughout the whole day and truly celebrated turning 106 in style.
“She is very grateful for all the birthday messages left for her.”
