Christmas card contest for youngsters

-

YOUNG artists are being urged to put their creative talents to the test in the Heart of England Co-operative Society’s popular Christmas card competition.

Now in its 19th year the competition gives young people aged eight to 11 the chance to explore ‘What Christmas means to you’, winning some lucrative prizes for themselves and their schools in the process.

Judges are seeking original, attractive creations, with the only criteria being to include the society’s official logo.

More than £1,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs in the competition, including £500 for the winning school, with a separate prize for the winning pupil, and further incentives for two runners-up and their respective schools.

Jo Dyke, Community and Membership Adviser at the Heart of England Co-operative Society, said: “Once again our Society is delighted to invite children from across Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire to enter our annual Christmas card competition.

“Since its launch we have found the competition becomes more and more difficult to judge as the number of entries grows and the children raise the bar with the standard of their drawings.”

She added: “Even though it is hard picking just one winner and two runners-up, our judges always have great fun and never fail to be surprised by the high standard of entries.

“We cannot wait to see what this year’s competition has to bring.”

The pupil with the most creative Christmas card will also receive a framed certificate and will also have the chance to see their design develop into a full colour Christmas card.

The competition prizes have been made possible through the society’s unique Helping Hearts Awards Scheme which gives financial support to worthy causes in the local community. The deadline for entries is November 14.
