Birthday bash for riding charity
A HORSE riding group for people with disabilities celebrated its sixth birthday with more than one hundred guests at their annual show.
The Arden Riding for the Disabled Association Group, enjoyed their annual show day which involved warm-ups in a dressage arena, a challenging countryside course and a demanding cross-country course, in conjunction with their recent birthday.
This year’s emphasis was on participation rather than competition, and more than 20 riders were rewarded for their concentration and stamina with specially-printed rosettes.
The group’s assistant county instructor, Elizabeth Hill, said: “I’m very pleased with the progress all our riders have made this year.
“They have shown real commitment and have developed the ability to concentrate as well as benefiting from the core strength and skills that riding develops.
“What is particularly gratifying to see is how a bond of sympathy and understanding can grow between horse and rider.”
The day continued as riders, par- ents and friends were able to enjoy a feast of burgers, sausages and cakes which had generously been provided by Bates the Butchers, of Atherstone, and Arden’s long-term sponsors, Greggs.
Some modern twists on classic games provided daytime entertainment for younger guests, as well as colouring activities and face painting.
Before the birthday cake was cut and distributed, tribute was paid to the committed work of volunteers who help out with the group, for without whom, they say they simply could not function.
To conclude the day, a special announcement was delivered by the Secretary of Arden RDA, that a formal Partnership agreement had been signed between the horse riding group and the TUI Care Foundation.
It will mean that the group will receive a share of the onboard collections made on TUI flights arriving into Birmingham Airport, a welcome boost to the Group and their horses. Arden RDA is now looking to reach out to more riders, so that their activities can be expanded.
It meets at different venues including Ashby Parva which is near Ullesthorpe.
