Canaries take point from trip to seaside

-

AFTER collecting their first home league win of the season 2-1 over Banbury United last Tuesday, Barwell picked up another point when they travelled to the far east (of England) to play struggling Lowestoft Town.

Barwell’s line up was full of intent, playing with three strikers, but the teams cancelled themselves out in a 0-0 stalemate.

Barwell showed plenty of aggression from the start in Britain’s easternmost town, dominating possession, but despite this a clear-cut chance was proving difficult to carve out.

A tame header by Massiah McDonald and a low drive by Jahvan Davidson-Miller, well saved by the home keeper, were the best of the furst-half chances as Barwell dominated the home side.

The game followed in the same pattern for the second half, with Elvis Putnins in the home goal forced to race outside his area to head clear a challenge from Davidson-Miller just after the break.

The Barwell striker was in action again and went close to breaking the deadlock in the 55th minute when he curled the ball beyond Putnins, but against the base of the post. It would prove to be the closest Barwell came to three points.

In the closing stages Lowestoft finally came to life and almost snatched the points themselves.

In the 88th minute Barwell keeper Liam Castle dived across his goal to turn a vicious Kieran Higgs shot over the bar, and there was still time for him to be called into action again, keeping out a 20-yard free kick from Conor McKendry.
