Charity shop boss has locks cut off
A LADY from Earl Shilton has braved the shave and had her long locks chopped to raise money for charity.
Age UK manager, Sue Pitman, 57, courageously made the decision to shave her head to support and raise money for cancer leading charity Macmillan.
Out of the 13 volunteers at the Age UK Earl Shilton branch, four are sufferers of cancer, with two volunteers in remission and two currently undergoing treatment.
Sue used this as motivation to shave her head and to emphasise that nobody should have battle the disease alone.
“Cancer is probably one of the toughest fights that most of us will ever face,” she said, “It’s good to know that people like Macmillan are out there, should they need help or support.
“On the day of the shave, I was nervous, even though I have had short hair before, I did wonder how it would look, but then thought ‘whatever, it’s only my hair, it will grow back’.”
Sue opted to keep her head shave low key, she chose a local barber to do the deed and was joined only by her friend, Tracey Jane Matthews, who recorded the event.
“Jodie Leanne Spratt, from The Doghouse Barber Shop in Earl Shilton was brilliant, she put me at ease straight away,” Sue added.
“21 minutes later, it was all over and I love my new cut.”
Charity worker Sue had set herself a target of £1,000 to raise before October 31, and she is well on her way to reach this total, having currently raised £700.
“People’s reaction has been great, many of them have suggested I keep it,”
“There are far too many people to thank individually, so a huge thank you to everyone that has supported me, I feel very humbled, but great, as the money raised will be such a help. “Would I do it again?, Yes in a heartbeat.” If you would like to donate to Sue’s head shave then you can do so by visiting her just giving page at http:// www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sue-pitmanjustgiving.
