Bosworth find visitors too strong

-

VISITORS Belgrave enjoyed their trip to Market Bosworth RFC at the weekend coming away with a 35-17 victory.

In wintery conditions the game started with nothing to warm the heart. The only move of any note was a clearance kick by Lewis Brightmore which although gaining a lot of distance did not result in advantage for Bosworth. In the thirteenth minute the Belgrave pack used their weight advantage to get a maul moving close enough to the Bosworth line for their wing forward to dive over to open the scoring.

The conversion attempt failed. This was followed by a similar worked piece which was developed from a successful line out, this time a try awarded to one of their props. Again the conversion was unsuccessful.

Belgrave’s third try came from a kick ahead which bounced awk- wardly for the Bosworth defence and was skilfully picked up by the advancing sprinter who went over under the posts to give the kicker any easy conversion this time. As half time approached a Belgrave player was sent to the sin bin giving Bosworth an advantage in numbers which they quickly used to win a scrum and get Ricky Wickwar over for Bosworth’s first try of the match.

The half time score was Market Bosworth 5 and Belgrave 17.

The game restarted with Bosworth continuing to use the advantage to attack the Belgrave line and scrum half Guy Goodman jinked his way through for a touch down which Joe Randon converted.

With the sin binned player returned to the game it was a Bosworth players turn to be sin binned for a dubious offence and Belgrave’s turn to use the advantage and play some wide open rugby which resulted in a bonus point try in the corner.

This was quickly followed by a successful penalty kick to add to their score. With equal numbers back on the pitch Bosworth put the pressure on and advanced to the Belgrave line for the impressive Will Clarke to dummy his way through to score Bosworth’s third try. The referee was on hand to see the incorrect use of an elbow by a Bosworth player and issued a yellow card, unfortunately to the same player who had received one earlier in the game, and consequently it became a sending off. Again this imbalance in the numbers gave Belgrave the opportunity to form a maul and push over for their fifth try, quickly followed by the same move for their sixth try, luckily for Bosworth their kicker was having an off day.

The final score Market Bosworth 17 Belgrave 35.
