Lego safari at zoo

70 new ‘animals’ arrive at Twycross

-

TWYCROSS Zoo has welcomed more than 70 new animal exhibits – all made out of Lego!

The Great Brick Safari is coming to Twycross until January 7 next year and will feature life-sized Lego brick animals, showcasing 27 species.

Among them you’ll find a four metre tall elephant called Earl Grey, which weighs 1,210kg and took 271,739 bricks to build.

You’ll be able to see a roaring Bengal tiger and a majestic lion with his playful cubs, plus a collection of spiders, including a Brazilian salmon pink bird eater, a Goliath bird-eating tarantula, and a bark spider - which has the longest web-shooting range of any spider.

The builders have constructed a Lego brick model showcasing the vibrant world of butterflies.

Swords, harpoons, levers and even snow-shoes are used to replicate these distinctive shapes, adding incredible details to these amazing creatures.

Professional Lego builders, Bright Bricks, used 882,339 pieces to make these sculptures - which have a combined weight of just over 5,389.5kg. That’s the equivalent of seven fullsized female giraffes.

The Great Brick Safari is a first for a Midlands zoo, and is included in the price of zoo admission.

As part of the event, little ones can take part in the Safari Spotters Trail and seek out all of the brick animals - from a panda to a penguin.

Karen Clarke, of Twycross Zoo, said: “We’re really looking forward to hosting the safari, which promises to be a fantastic day out for the family.

“It’s a fun and engaging way of showcasing some of our amazing species, while welcoming some wonderful new animals to the zoo.

”We are always looking for ways to involve our guests and provide the best experience we can when they visit the zoo.”

Tickets can be bought online, giving a 10 per cent saving on the price paid on the gate.

Online tickets are £16.32 for an adult (£17.96 including Gift Aid donation) and £12.24 for a child (£13.46 including Gift Aid donation).
