Gift fair, First World War exhibition and more at gallery

-

THE Atkins Gallery has put together a winter programme with something for everybody in its schedule.

For history lovers, Weaving Goodbye is an exhibition looking back at our heritage using nostalgia and contemporary art.

Local artist Julie Ridington is bringing back her display which explores Hinckley’s industrial past through photography, sculpture and drawing.

The return of the exhibit expands on the original theme by looking at now redundant spaces and showcasing their former use, exploring factories in industry across Burbage, Barwell and Earl Shilton.

Weaving Goodbye is on display until Wednesday November 14.

The Christmas Gift Fair will return on Saturday November 17 with Christmas gift ideas and other festive treats to choose from.

An array of stalls will be on hand to help get visitors and the people of Hinckley into the Christmas mood, with a chance to enjoy coffee and cake from the Coffee Van.

The event is also free and will be open from 10am to 4pm.

An exhibition looking at the stories of local World War One soldiers is coming to the gallery as part of the First World War Centenary.

Famous Fifty is a project which honours the Famous Fifty and their contribution and sacrifice in World War one.

The Famous 50 were the first men from Coalville and the surrounding area to volunteer for service at the start of the first war and were some of the first to set foot on French soil.

These men are now having their story told through the exhibition which will be on display from Wednesday December 5 to Friday December 28.

Following in the footsteps of the Famous Fifty exhibition will be the Famous Fifty Females, a touring exhibition celebrating the Rights of Women Centenary 1918-2018.

It will feature famous women from history including Boudicca and local suffragette Alice Hawkins, as well as modern author Julia Donaldson, creator of the Gruffalo’s Child.

Visitors can also visit the gallery to take a look at the newly restored Hansom Cab and learn about inventor Joseph Hansom and his connections to Hinckley.

The gallery is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm and is free to enter.
