NKF to face Shepshed in third round of the FA Vase

-

NKF Burbage travelled to Midland Football League Premier Division side, Stourport Swifts on Saturday in the FA Vase 2nd round.

Burbage started the game brightly and had some good early possession and chances and found themselves 1-0 up in the 14th minute when Adcock finished well through a crowed penalty area after a lovely cushioned header from Storer.

Burbage continued to take the game to Stourport and deservedly went in 1 to the good at half time.

The second half followed a similar trend with Burbage looking good in possession and defending their lead superbly well. Coultas came off the bench and won a penalty which Astill duly dispatched to give Burbage a 2-0 lead and one they would not let slip and enabled their safe passage to round three of the competition.

The travelling support was incredible on Saturday with the club taking two coaches and more travelling over under their own steam.

A football team from Burbage has never been in the FA Vase and it now has one in the last 64. The club will make the short trip up the M1 on Saturday 1st December to take on Shepshed Dynamo and is urging the local people of Burbage and Hinckley to come along and get behind the team.

Prior to Saturday’s match Burbage travelled to the much fancied Atherstone Town on Wednesday night. They started the brighter of the two teams and took a deserved lead on the half hour mark with Smith finishing well from the edge of the penalty area.

They were pegged back within a minute though. Coultas had a good chance to restore the lead minutes before half time but his effort lacked any real venom and the keeper held onto his effort. As the clocked ran down towards the half time whistle Storer found himself sent off, on another day it could have been yellow.

The second half saw Burbage up against it with their 10 men but they defended wave after wave of Atherstone attacks and a combination of excellent defending, top drawer goalkeeping and a bit of luck saw them come away with a point, much to the disappointment of the home supporters.

Burbage take on Chelmsley Town on Saturday at Kirkby Road Sports, Barwell, 3pm Kick offf.
