People should stock up the medicine cabinet for winter

-

HEALTH officials from across the region are urging residents to stock up their medicine cabinet this winter in a bid to promote ‘Self Care for Life’.

As part of this year’s Self Care Week campaign, health officials are delivering advice on how to protect and improve individual’s physical health and mental wellbeing.

One of the many ways that people can take care of themselves this winter is by ensuring their medicine cabinet is well stocked and with minor conditions such as colds, coughs and sore throats being easily treatable from home, officials have released a recommended list of home remedies to help you combat unwanted bad health.

Within the list are painkillers such as ibuprofen and paracetamol, aspirin, antihistamines for allergies, diarrhoea relief, constipation relief, throat lozenges and antacid which would collectively cost around £10 and make a big difference to your health this win- ter, according to officials.

Luvjit Kandula, Chief Officer for Leicestershire and Rutland Local Pharmaceutical Committee, said: “One tip for self care is to familiarise yourself with all the different ways you can get medical help if you need it.

“NHS 111 is available 24/7 to give advice on how to treat any illnesses or have.

“All pharmacists are equipped to give you advice on treating minor illnesses or can point you in the direction of more help if necessary. They can also advise on ways you can make small changes to have a healthier lifestyle.” injuries you may
