-

CAT D are in outstanding form in Division Two of the Hinckley Table Tennis League, in their latest round of matches they have produced some outstanding performances to climb to the top of the table.

They defeated G Ward F by 10 sets to nil and followed this up with a huge win over one of their closest rivals G Ward C also by 10 sets to nil, despite some resistance from Dick Jenkins (GWC). In their next match away to Hit ’n ’Hope B they dropped just one set to recorded a 9 sets to 1 victory. They are now clear favourites to win the Division with just under half the season to go.

G Ward C claimed a good win over Cat E by 7 sets to 3, Jenkins (GWC) collecting a maximum. Sadly they could not sustain this form slipping to another defeat this time at the hands of their own GWE team by 4 sets to 6, almost certainly ending their hopes of silverware come the end of the season. Dave Richardson (GWE) claiming three good wins. G Ward E has moved up the table in recent weeks collecting some good wins. They beat Cat F by 8 sets to 2 and followed this win another good win over their own G W F also by 8 sets to 2.

Hit ’n’ Hope A have clawed their way back into contention with a couple of good victories. In their first match they defeated early title leaders Market Bosworth 1 by 7 sets to three. There were some close games and the turning point was when John Veasey (MB1) took on the undefeated “The Doc Harrison” in a tense battles. “The Doc” finally running out winner 11-6 in the fifth game. In their next match they saw off Cat F by 9 sets to 1 but surprisingly came unstuck when they met G Ward F. The Barwell side with only two players still managed to pull off this surprise result winning by 6 sets to 4. Roger Hill with a maximum and Tom Kelly collecting two good wins, including straight games win over “Doc Harrison”, to see G Ward F to victory.

A team to keep your eye on is Cat G who are currently in fine form. In their last two matches they have picked up wins over Hit ’n’ Hope 2 by 6 sets to 4 and Market. Bosworth 2 by 0 9 sets to 1. Anna Tomczuk winning all of her games in both matches.
