Hinckley beat Griff in midweek game

-

WITH the wind howling and a team tired from a day at work, Hinckley A thought they had a hard game ahead of them against Griff.

The first week quarter showed how much Hinckley hates a night game. Every time Hinckley had the ball either Griff intercepted it or mistakes were made by the team leaving them 5 points behind straight away. By the end of the first quarter they had begun to find their feet and caught up to finish 8-8.

As the team took to the court for the second quarter they knew they had some work to do and suddenly started to play some proper netball. Griff didn’t know what had hit them. Hinckley shooters Carole Payne and Holly Hemsley were scoring goals galore and Griff’s heads had completely dropped. This continued in the third quarter with some extreme interception by the amazing Ashleigh Oakes. By the end of the third quarter they were ahead by 37-19. Hinckley had put everything into the second and third quarter that by the fourth quarter they were shattered and it showed. Luckily they had created a big enough gap for Griff to not stand a chance of catching them. The game ended with a win for Hinckley 42-31. POM Ashleigh Oakes.

Hinckley B had a tough game on their hands today against Highway C who are currently 6 points ahead of them.

The game started off being close and tense with both sides defending and attacking equally. Hinckley defence were making the Highway shooters work for every goal while the attack were fighting hard to make sure that every ball counted. The slow, even starting game was reflected in the low score of the first quarter being 6-5 to Highway.

Knowing how close the game was, Hinckley were fighting hard to keep the playing fields even. Steph and Annis were putting great pressure on the Highway attack while mid court were moving well together to get the ball to Emily and Lucy to shoot. At half time the score was still a close 13-12 to Highway. The tall defence and movement around court from Highway in the third quarter proved to be working as they went into the lead by 8 goals - 19-27. Determined to get the game back, Hinckley went into the final quater strong and positive.

The B team’s fight and movement around the court were flowing and the feeds into the shooters were effective. Unfortunately, Highway also had the same mindset and their shooters were starting to get every goal in, despite Hinckley’s defence not making it easy for them with great leans and pressure. The final score of 29-40 to Highway C was not a true reflection on how well the B team worked together and how they fought for every ball.

This week Hinckley C faced Cherrybombs A. The game started well for both sides, with action being very much goal for goal, Cherrybombs led by 1 goal after the first quarter. Hinckley worked hard throughout the match with the Hinckley defence working tirelessly (who were out of usual formation due to injury) with Cherrybombs shooters being in fine form. Hinckley fought for every ball in the final quarter but could not close the gap final score ending 36-19 to the opposition. POM Liz.

On Wednesday evening, Hinckley D played against a strong Henley team. The first quarter was slow but steady. Great work throughout the whole team. Even though the score starting off low, 4-9, they kept asking for those forward balls to keep on the pressure. Second quarter, Hinckley picked up the pace but started to struggle with the tall defensive players. The score remained low for Hinckley as Henley started to pull away and ended this quarter 10 points ahead.

The third quarter, Hinckley had a switch around of players.

This put more pressure on Henley which made them make silly mistakes. Hinckley took advantage of this and started to bring it back. They began to become more confident and straight with their passes which showed in the score. They won this quarter with the score of 17-26. It seemed Henley were starting to run out of energy which again Hinckley picked up on. With amazing defence from Heather and Jade in the circle and accurate shooting from Tracey and Lucy, Hinckley kept the fight going. Final score, Hinckley 19- Henley 31. Player of match Chloe Phillips.

A wet and windy Saturday morning saw the D team face Harbury B. A well contended first quarter saw the score 6-12 to Harbury after some intelligent play from both teams. After a lot of rain, the second quarter saw a reluctance to over sprint for balls meaning play was slowed down and passes became more direct. A very strong Harbury shooter took control meaning Harbury took a considerable 28-8 lead. Despite this Hinckley continued fighting for ball and managed to win the third quarter thanks to some excellent shooting and passing between players.

After was a difficult fourth quarter with an extremely slippery ball which ended 42-17 but many improvements to take from the game including the increased communication between players. POM Tracey Pallett (GA)
