Police seek car after a hit-and-run

Teenager was left badly injured following incident

-

POLICE searching for a hit-and-run driver who left a pedestrian lying seriously injured in the road have released a picture of a car they would like to trace.

Eighteen-year-old Heaven Sheldon was hit by a black Kia car in Hawley Road, Hinckley, at 9.45pm on Friday, November 9.

She was walking to a Tesco store when it is thought a car mounted the kerb and hit her from behind.

The day centre worker was left with a three-inch gash across her face, eight damaged teeth, cuts and bruises and a bad injury to her right leg.

In a statement released with the image, the force said: “We want to trace and speak to the owner of the vehicle pictured as part of an investigation into a fail-to-stop road traffic collision in Hawley Road, Hinckley.

“The pedestrian, a woman, was knocked to the ground and suffered serious injuries.

“We’d ask that you look carefully at the car pictured. It has distinctive roof bars. Do you recognise it? Does it look familiar?

“If that’s your car, or you know who owns it, then please get in touch as we would like to speak to you.”

Heaven has previously spoken about the incident.

She said: “I was walking down the street and the car came from behind and I didn’t see it at all.

“I can’t remember being hit or anything. I just remember picking myself off the ground and there being blood everywhere.”

Based on her injuries, Heaven, who lives in Burbage, thinks the car rammed into her right leg and knocked her forward into a lamppost, which caused her facial injuries.

She said: “I was in a lot of pain. I still am. I’m probably going to have the scar on my forehead for life and might need plastic surgery.

“I was in hospital for a day and given lots of painkillers.

“I’m just so angry at whoever did this to me. I can’t believe they didn’t stop.

“It could have been a complete accident but if something like that happens surely you hold your hands up and say you did it – you don’t just drive off.”
