Council opening times for festive period

THE following opening times during the Christmas and New Year period have been announced by the borough council alongside arrangemen­ts for various council services across the borough. Council office closing times Borough council services at the Hinckley Hub will close at 12 noon on Monday December 24 and reopen at 8.30am on Thursday December 27.

Borough Council services at the Hinckley Hub will also be closed on Tuesday January 1 2019.

In the case of an emergency, residents should contact 01455 251137. Refuse & recycling arrangemen­ts There will be alternate arrangemen­ts for collection­s due on Tuesday December 25, Wednesday December 26 and Tuesday January 1.

All other refuse and recycling collection­s will continue as usual during the Christmas and New Year period.

However, the garden waste (brown bin) collection service will be suspended for two weeks during Christmas and New Year with the last collection on Thursday December 20, to re-start again on Friday January 4 2019.

Alternate arrangemen­ts for refuse (black bin) and recycling (blue-lid bin) collection­s due on Tuesday December 25, Wednesday December 26 and Tuesday January 1 are as follows:

Refuse due on Tuesday December 25 will be collected on Monday December 24

Recycling (blue-lid) due on Tuesday December 25 will be collected on Friday December 21

Refuse due on Wednesday December 26 will be collected on Thursday December 27

Recycling (blue-lid) due on Wednesday December 26 will be collected on Friday December 28

Refuse due on Tuesday January 1 will be collected on Monday December 31

Recycling (blue-lid) due on Tuesday January 1 will be collected on Wednesday January 2

For residents living in rural west areas of the borough who usually have garden and refuse bins collected on the same day, collection arrangemen­ts are as follows:

Recycling (Blue-lid) due on Tuesday December 25 moves to Monday December 24

Recycling (Blue-lid) due on Wednesday December 26 moves to Thursday December 27

Refuse due on Tuesday January 1 moves to Monday December 31

Free Parking on Saturdays in Hinckley

Customers are reminded that Christmas shopping in Hinckley will be given a boost this year with free car parking in selected town centre car parks on Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas.

In a joint initiative sponsored by Hinckley & Bosworth Council (HBBC) and supported by Hinckley BID and North Warwickshi­re and Hinckley College, the Borough Council will be allowing free parking in Lower Bond Street, Druid Street, Alma Road, Holliers Walk, Trinity Vicarage Road and Thornycrof­t Road car parks every Saturday in December in order to thank shoppers for their loyalty and to increase trade for shops and businesses.

The free parking offer applies from 9am on Saturday December 8, 15 and 22.

Shoppers are reminded that parking is free in all council run car parks on Sundays and daily after 6pm throughout the year.

Shoppers will also be able to park for free in the North Warwickshi­re and Hinckley College car park every Satur- day in December.

The car park, which is directly behind the Atkins Building, can be accessed from Druid St. Hinckley Market at Christmas There will be markets as usual in Hinckley throughout the Christmas period on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays including Christmas Eve Monday December 24 and New Year’s Eve Monday December 31. Merry Munch A Sunday market offering a selection of hot and cold food plus crafts, collectibl­es and gifts will be in Market Place, Hinckley on Sunday December 16.

Merry Munch, which is managed by East Midlands Markets and Events in partnershi­p with the council is open from 10am until 4pm. Hinckley BID’s Santa’s Grotto Hinckley BID is offering a Santa’s Grotto in Britannia Centre daily from Wednesday December 19 to Sunday December 23.

The grotto, which is located in the former Argos unit in Britannia Centre off Castle Street, is open from 12 noon3pm and 3.30-6pm on Wednesday December 19 to Friday December 21 and from 10am -1pm and 1.30pm4pm on Saturday December 22 and Sunday December 23.

Entry costs £2 per child, with free admission to under 3s.

Each child will receive a gift and no booking is necessary. Hinckley Leisure Centre Hinckley Leisure Centre will close at 12 noon on Monday December 24 - last admission at 11am - and remain closed on Tuesday December 25 and Wednesday December 26.

The centre’s opening hours will be from 8am to 6pm from Thursday December 27 to Sunday December 30.

The centre will close at 4pm on Monday December 31 and remain closed on Tuesday January 1 2019.

Normal opening hours will resume from 6:30am on Wednesday January 2.

Community Houses Gwendoline Community House and Earl Shilton Community House will close for the Christmas period on Tuesday December 18 at 2.15pm and Barwell Community House will close for the Christmas period on Thursday December 20 at 2.15pm.

All three Community Houses will re-open at 9.15am on Wednesday January 2 2019.
