School helps to raise funds helper puppy

-

AFTER a successful year of fundraising students from Dixie Grammar School are ‘thrilled’ to have raised enough money to purchase a new puppy for an important charity.

Following a visit to the Canine Assistance Dogs Training Centre in Osgathorpe, the students were inspired to help out the Canine Partners charity who help to transform the lives of people with physical disabilities by partnering them with assistance dogs.

A year long attempt which saw students take part in car-washing activities and hair colouring enterprises among other fundraising events has helped the school to exceed their ambitious goal of £500 by reaching almost £600.

Importantly, the £600 raised was more than enough to cover the £500 required to purchase a new puppy for the charity, which was handed over to Jane, Mike and her dog Chico who returned to the school to gratitude.

Jane had previously inspired students with her own personal story, express their describing the sense of isolation and loss of identity that can result from a disability and how much of an impact an assistance dog can have on your life.

Mrs Helen Daniels, a year-six form tutor, who organised last year’s visit, commented: “I am thrilled to see Jane, Mike and Chico back in the school to receive the cheque.

“The children were so inspired last year but the fundraising has required a much longer commitment and it has been really impressive to see this in such young students. Neither they nor I can wait to meet the puppy!”

Canine Partners rely solely on donations from the public and legacies in order to continue transforming the quality of life for people who need it most.
