School festive fair raises nearly £3,000
HINCKLEY Parks Primary school has raised almost £3,000 at this year’s annual Christmas fair with Headteacher Mr Harding describing it as an ‘ overwhelming success’.
The annual event took place in early December. Each year it sees the school’s PTA work closely with Hinckley Parks’ senior leadership team to create an exciting festive event for pupils and families to enjoy.
This year, the two teams created a fair which boasted tombola stalls, raffles, game stalls, hot food and drinks counters, book stalls and personalised gift counters which were all provided by various local businesses from across the area.
Chair of the school’s PTA, Sally Bott, described this year’s atmosphere as fantastic.
She said: “As Chair of the PTA I oversee the organising and smooth running of the event but without the help of fantastic parents and grandparents at the school, it wouldn’t be possible.
“This year saw a truly amazing performance by the school choir, singing songs from The Greatest Showman along with some well known classics. It was a beautiful performance and really did bring a tear to my eye, they did the school and their choir teacher, Miss Cheek, very proud!”
Last year saw Hinckley Parks reach their £7,000 target which meant that they could purchase the school’s new Trim Trail and with an estimated 300 or more families attending this year’s event, the school will once again have a generous budget to plan future activities with.
“To see the school so busy and full of parents and families was very special,” added Hinckley Parks Headteacher David Harding.
“The fair was a fantastic event and an overwhelming success. We are working so hard to explore all opportunities to welcome parents and the wider community into school and this is a fabulous example of this.
“We are extremely fortunate at Hinckley Parks to have such a dedicated and supportive PTA. There is a really positive feeling around the school at the moment which makes us feel very proud.”
Santa’s grotto was also a popular attraction for children which gave them an opportunity to chat to the jolly man and his elves about what they would like for Christmas, as well as receiving a little present.
There was also a special Isla tree where children could come to the event, write a Christmas message on a unicorn and hang it from the tree, along with the #Islastones stall which allowed the children to remember their special friend Isla Tansey who died earlier this year following her brave battle with cancer.
