Proposal to turn nursery into children’s care home
A planning application has been made to change a children’s day nursery into a care home in Barwell.
The proposal would see Greenlands Day Nursery transformed into residential accommodation for individuals in need of care.
As part of the proposal, the existing building on Hinckley Road would provide six bedrooms for minors between six and 18-years-old and each resident would have their own private bathroom.
The applicants believe its unique position would make an ideal location for the care home.
They said: “This propos- al represents an opportunity to provide a high quality and well designed care home which will help to meet the growing need for care bed spaces.
“The proposed scheme is intended to provide residential for individuals in need of care and would make a valuable and positive contribution to the dwelling types in the area.”
Plans for the ground floor of the proposed care home would see a lounge, games and activity room, domestic kitchen with dining area, two classrooms, therapy room and small kitchen in the school area while the first floor will feature six bedrooms, a mix of en suite and bathrooms as well as two staff sleep-in rooms.
The applicants also believe that the care home could provide highly beneficial employment within the area and that it would present a range of employment opportunities ranging from administration, maintenance and teaching staff as well as domestic and care assistants.
According to the applicants the proposal would have no significant impact on the neighbouring property, stating that the reduc- tion in would them.
They said: “The current use of the property as a day nursery means a large number of vehicle movements at the start and end of the day.
“The proposed use will involve much lower intensity of vehicle movements which will relate to staff and operational movements only.”
The plans to change the use of the day nursery will come before the borough council later this year.
Members of the public can have their say on the plans through the council’s website. vehicular actually traffic benefit
