Bosworth lose again on their travels as Belgrave prove too strong for them

-

IT has become obvious this season that Market Bosworth do not like travelling away, even though it is only to Leicester.

Saturday was no exception although other results in the league helped them to retain eighth position and with some home games coming up which are against teams lower in the league things look hopeful.

An away game at Belgrave has never been an occasion to look forward to and with several key players unavailable as a skiing holiday held more attraction, pessimism was the tone of the pre match conversations. Within two minutes of the start Belgrave were awarded a free kick several metres out from the Bosworth line but they chose a scrum down and pushed over to open the scoring.

Bosworth retained possession for a lengthy period keeping the ball to hand between the threes progressing to the Belgrave twenty-two where they were awarded a penalty. The kick for touch failed but the ball was won from a subsequent scrum and passed out to Mark Lucas who went over in the corner for Bosworth’s opening score. With the scores level the game became stagnant for a while with both teams making lots of mistakes.

A penalty attempt by Rich Harris from forty-two metres out just fell short. The game continued in the same vein moving backwards and forwards from twenty-two to twenty-two covering every part of the pitch until Belgrave set up camp on the Bosworth line and eventually crossing over under the posts presenting the kicker with an easy opportunity to slot the ball over this time. Straight away Bosworth managed to work their way towards the Belgrave line winning a scrum and subsequent line out to send Mark Lucas over for his second try and with Rich Harris’s conversion successful the scores were level again.

Optimism was on the increase but short lived as with half time approaching Belgrave ran in a couple of tries under the posts, the one giving them the bonus point was a solo effort from the half way, and both being convert- ed took the score at half time to Belgrave 26 – Bosworth 12.

Belgrave piled on the pressure from the restart and realising where their strength lay they added two more tries and conversions from well worked push overs.

This Bosworth side never gave up, continuing to defend well and in fact produced some impressive attacks but although getting close to the line on several occasions they were never able to get over. Even when Belgrave’s number eight was sin binned, Bosworth were unable to take any advantage and it was Belgrave who managed to increase their tally during the ten minutes they were down to fourteen men.

Another try for the hosts in the final minutes increased the score in the end to Belgrave 52 – Market Bosworth 12. There are no league games this week but there is a home advantage and a 3 o’clock kick off against Bugbrooke on March 2nd to look forward to when a bonus point win would be useful.
