WADE ON WATER with Richard Wade

-

SHACKERSTONE’S long suffering canal anglers finally found a few feeding fish with Sunday’s Open match results the best for some time. Pegged along the Hags Lane section it was Kevin “Scissor Hands” Milne who set the pace.

Catching twenty perch of different sizes on pole fished worm for a very respectable 5lb winning weight. Runner Up Ian Plant caught one big perch and some small bream to weigh 4lb 8ozs while Doug Dimbleby weighed in 3lb of small roach to claim third place.

Lychgate Fisheries Midweek Open was won in convincing style by Glyn Davies. Using a cage feeder loaded with liquidised bread and bread punch hook baits Glyn caught five carp and a big bream to weigh 38lb 1ozs. The rest struggled with Paul Bates needing just 5lb 8ozs to finish second while Michael Harding finished third with 5lb 2ozs. The weekend’s matches followed a similar pattern, with one decent catch while the rest struggled. Richard Leatherland won Saturday’s Open with 30lb 8oz, catching carp late on peg 36. Sundays match was won by Chris Mason, his fifth win in his last five visits! Again catching late on pole fished maggot to finish with 44lb 8ozs.

Sport at Higham Lane also suffered because of the varying weather con- ditions. Thursday’s Open was won by Clive Oliver who fished “bomb & corn” on peg 2 to weigh 23lb 6ozs. Mick Linnett came second from peg 9 with 13lb 7ozs. Saturday’s Open was won for the second successive week by Pete Wycherley with 21lb 9ozs again from peg 2. Jim Spradbury had a mixture of carp and perch to take second place with 14lb 8ozs while Clive Oliver came third with 12lb 6ozs.

There was a good turn out for Wednesday’s Maynes Lakes contest as anglers took advantage of a rare warm sunny day. Pole fished pellet tight to the island produced small carp from the start for Dave Cleaver who finished with the days top catch of 34lb 3ozs. Result; Pool One , Winner; Steve Spencer 18lb 8ozs from peg 38. Pool Two, winner: Dave Cleaver from peg 19.
