MP speaks out in support of Boris for Prime Minister
THE borough’s MP has spoken about why he thinks Boris Johnson should be the next Prime Minister.
David Tredinnick, MP for Bosworth, is backing the former mayor of London to become the new leader of the Conservative Party, saying that he has helped with issues affecting our area before.
Mr Tredinnick said: “I declared my support for Boris Johnson some time ago.
“He is someone I have known for many years in the various capacities he has served public life in our country and in my experience he has always been extremely approachable, open to ideas and has worked to address any issues I have raised on behalf of local constituents.
“At a time when the country needs strong leadership and direction, Boris certainly has the flair and positivity as well as the necessary drive and experience to deliver Brexit and then go on to win a General Election.
“The country needs a Prime Minister capable of dealing with the unique challenges the UK is now facing as it leaves the EU.
“To that end, I believe Boris Johnson will be a great Prime Minister who will deliver for all of the people and, importantly, who will work to unite the country.”
Ballot papers are being sent out to party members as they vote for either Johnson or Jeremy Hunt to take the top job, with the winner to be announced on July 23.
Several top Tories put their names forward to lead the country after current PM Theresa May announced her resignation, including Michael Andrea Leadsom and Javid.
Ms May said she would step down after she failed three times to get her withdrawal agreement ratified by Parliament and to deliver Brexit.
Mr Tredinnick has been a long-term supporter of the deal negotiated by Ms May and the European Union, and has said that part of the reason for this was to avoid uncertainty for businesses and jobs in his constituency.
He said previously: “Reaching any agreement with the EU was never going to be easy and it was inevitable that any deal was not going to please everyone but, particularly in an area like ours where there are thousands of manufacturing jobs, a managed exit from the European Union gives employers a level of certainty.
“The decision of the British people to leave the EU must be respected and the sooner a deal can be agreed upon the better it will be for local businesses and jobs.”
Mr Tredinnick has represented Bosworth for more than 30 years and announced in February 2019 that he would not contest his seat again at the next General Election. Gove, Sajid
