NOVEMBER Fridays between 5pm and 6pm are the most dangerous time to be on the roads, data has revealed.

The analysis is based on more than 3,000 collisions which took place in the Leicestershire policing area in 2016 and 2017, and which resulted in a driver, passenger, pedestrian or someone else being hurt or killed.

Some 348 of those incidents happened in November, working out at an average of 41 a week during that month.

June was the second most dangerous month, with an average of 40 a week, followed by May.

December emerged as the safest month, with just 275 casualty-causing accidents in total – or 31 per week.

The analysis also looked at the hours of the day when accidents were most likely to occur.

Some 893 – or nearly one in four – happened in the evening rush-hour, between 4pm and 7pm.

Of those, 284 were between 4pm and 5pm, 328 were between 5pm and 6pm, and 281 were between 6pm and 7pm.

Collisions were significantly less common on Sundays, and Monday was the safest weekday.

Friday (with 660 incidents) was the most common day for someone to be hurt or killed on the roads.

Thursday (578) was next, followed by Tuesday (552), Wednesday (543), Monday (530) and Saturday (511).

There were just 423 casualtycausing collisions on Sundays.

The data is published by the Department for Transport and based on official police records.

Of the 3,797 collisions in Leicestershire in the database, 59 resulted in at least one person being killed.

A further 513 resulted in serious injury.

Across Great Britain as a whole, there were 266,603 casualty-causing accidents in 2016 and 2017.

November was the most dangerous month, accounting for 24,699, while Friday (43,824) was the most dangerous day of the week.
