HIGHAM Lane Fishery burst into top form with a string of big catches in Saturday’s summer league contest.

Leading the way was Paul Gardner who fished bomb and pellet on peg 8, to win with a 107lb 6oz catch. Chris Waite finished second with 97lb 11ozs while Dean Hughes came third with 93lb 9ozs.

Sport is also improving along the Ashby Canal with the top three in Shackersto­ne’s Rising Sun-sponsored Tuesday night members series all weighing 3lbs.

Fished along the Hags Lane section, Mick Smith took the honours with a 3lb 10oz catch of small bream. Darren Milne finished second with 3lb 3ozs while Glyn Morris was third with a 3lb catch of small fish.

Lutterwort­hs visited Makin’s Fishery to fish Phase Three, where Inner and Outer Avon and Thames Pools were pegged. Darryl Moore pole fished method feeder down the margin on Thames peg 20 to win with 59lb 8ozs.

Mick Bassett finished top on Avon Pool and second overall with a 57lb 1oz catch from peg 20. Steve Spencer came third with 56lb 1ozs and Phil Neep was fourth with 5lb 2ozs.

Chris Edwards fished pellet close to the island to win Mayne’s Lakes Midweek Open with a 49lb 15oz catch of carp. Chris also drew the Golden Peg so enjoyed a bumper pay out as well.

Result: Pool One, First: Chris Edwards, peg 15. Pool Two, First: Darryl Moore, 39lb 7ozs, peg 28.

Measham’s Wednesday evening league was fished along the Globe length at Snarestone. Ted Yearby netted five nice bream to win with 9lb 2ozs. Simon Roberts came second with 4lb 13ozs while Doug Dimbleby finished third with 2lb 11ozs.

Brookfield’s third Barry Bennett Memorial match was fished at their Stoke Golding fishery, Barry’s favourite venue. Top on the day was Ian Shirley with a level 26lb from peg 5.

Danny Ross came second with 20lb 5ozs while Stu Campton finished third with 14lb 7ozs.

Higham Lane’s Thursday Open match was won by Bruce Robinson who pole fished pellet on peg 24 to finish with 109lb 3ozs. Paul Cook came second with 94lb 9ozs. There was a tie for third place with both Ricky Arms and Richard Wells weighing 66lb.

Lychgate Fisheries Sunday Open match was won by Jonny Harvey who fished corn and pellet to catch 37lb 12ozs from peg 46. Steve Zseli came second with 35lb 12ozs from peg 33. Rob Hollis finished third with 28lb 4ozs.

Measham’s Lambert Shield contest was fished on the Coventry canal at Alvercote. Alan Dixon landed four big perch around the 2lb mark, and some small fish to win with 8lb 10ozs.

Ian Plant came second weighing 3lb 11ozs of small roach and perch while Alan Newman finished third with 3lb 1ozs.
