Closed pub could be developed into homes

A FORMER pub and restaurant in Burbage could be partly demolished and redeveloped as a complex of homes.

34 Windsor Street has been closed for two years and plans have now been filed to knock down part of the rear of the building and refurbish it as a duplex, comprising a two-bedroom property and a three-bedroom property.

A three-bedroom house and a terrace of three two-bedroom houses would also be built as part of the proposal, with each of the units to have its own garden and an area for bin storage.

Vehicles would access the site from an existing entrance on Windsor Street, with the complex to include 12 car parking spaces, six fewer than the current number.

An ecological assessment filed with the application said: “Proposals are yet to be finalised but are anticipated to include some modifications to the existing building, the potential for reroofing and upgrading of services (electrics and plumbing etc) to convert the disused restaurant into two residential units.”

A design statement prepared for the proposal said: “The landscape design proposes to enhance the site and its wider surrounding context.

“It is proposed Tarmac for the vehicle circulation area and paving blocks for the pedestrian areas.

“Soft landscape features and trees will enhance the character of the semipublic open space.”

The restaurant and cocktail bar was cited in the Michelin guide for two years before it closed in summer 2017.
