Findley takes the honours

TWO anglers with an empty peg between them battled it out in Thursday’s Higham Lane Open match.

Both topped the 100lb mark with “Carp Master” Andy Findley winning the day with a 125lb 11oz catch taken on pole fished pellet from peg 11. Mick Linnett had to settle for second place from peg 9 with a 109lb 6oz catch. Steady Eddie Sharrad recent good form continued as he finished third with a 95lb 12oz catch.

Ashby canal legend Doug Dimbleby proved that he’s no mug on other canals either, taking the honours in Measham’s Away day contest on the Coventry Canal at Alvercote. Doug weighed 4lb 10oz, a lot of small roach plus a 1lb 12oz perch. Alan Dixon finished second with a 3lb catch of small fish while Phil Hicks came third with 2lb 7ozs.

Regular’s filled the top two places in Sunday’s MAM Qualifier fished at Lychgate Fisheries. Leading the way was Jonny Harvey from peg 40,who had a fish less first two hours before the fish arrived. A busy last three hours resulted in a winning 168lb 14oz catch! Mark Sidwell also left it late, boosting his catch with a bumper last hour to finish second with 92lb 4oz from peg 46. Peterborou­gh angler Ben Townsend finished third on his first visit with a 75lb 14oz catch from peg 29.

The Second Round of the Pete Hogg Memorial canal series was fished along the Populars section. Roger Pickering included a nice bream in his winning 4lb 8oz catch. Dave Callaghan finished a very close second, just 1oz behind, weighing 4lb 7ozs of small bream and roach. Adie Holland included a 3lb Pike in his third place 3lb 4oz catch.

Inform Darryl Moore took the honours in Mayne’s Lakes midweek Open. Fishing a method feeder on the pole Darryl caught from the start, finishing with a 60lb 11oz winning catch. Result: Pool One, Winner: Steve Spencer 48lb 14ozs from peg 10. Pool Two, Winner: Darryl Moore from peg 32.

Higham Lane Fishery have an Open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

The Third Round of the Pete Hogg Memorial series takes place this Saturday, (Aug 17th). Draw 12.30pm at the Globe Inn Snarestone.

Lychgate Fisheries have Open matches on Saturday, draw 9am and Sunday Draw 11am.

Shackersto­ne have their Members Don MacIntyre Memorial contest this Sunday, Draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun.

Brookfield Angling Club have an Open match at Stoke Golding this Sunday, draw 9am.

Mayne’s Lakes have an

Open match every Wednesday, draw 10am.
