Gardening show helps to raise cash for a good cause

-

A GARDENING club in Burbage held its 73rd annual show to raise money for first responders.

Burbage Gardening Club hosted the show at Hastings High School at the end of August, with 120 exhibitors, including some children, taking part.

The club held its annual auction in July, which also raised money for charity.

Although entry to both events was free, more than £900 worth of donations were made to raise money for the West Leicestershire Community First Responder Group (WLCFR), including donation.

The WLCFR group is a team of volunteers who use their own time to provide emergency life support in the borough and surrounding areas. The group is trained by and works closely with the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) and members are despatched to 999 incidents by the EMAS control team. Community First Responders provide emergency medical care until EMAS can arrive on the scene.

A cheque was presented to Derek Windybank, from WLCFR, at the gardening club’s

a£100 anonymous October social meeting.

Burbage Gardening Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm at the Constitutional Club, in Church Street. It welcomes new members.

The club arranges social events, with visits to garden and flower shows, and holds a talk or demonstration on a gardening subject each month.

Twice a year, the club also plants hanging baskets placed around Burbage on behalf of Burbage Parish Council. For more information visit the club’s website www.burbagegardeningclub.org.uk.
