Cruellest of defeats for the Road

unfortunately they were also the smallest, landing 220 “silver” fish before catching two carp in the last hour to boost his weight up to 25lb 4oz for third place.

With the water temperature dropping as the nights get colder, catching fish gets harder, and those fishing Maynes Lakes mid week open found sport harder than normal.

Dave Cleaver found some feeding fish using pellet to make the days winning weight of 30lb 10oz.

Result: Pool One, winner: John Baughan, 17lb 2oz peg 21. Pool Two, winner: Dave Cleaver, peg 41.

Brookfield’s Open match at Stoke Golding was won by Albie Biehl with a 41lb 6oz catch from peg 8. Danny Ross came second with a 40lb 12oz catch from peg 3 while Chris Moore came third with 27lb 2oz.

The first round of Shackerstone’s Members winter league series, sponsored by Onstylelifting, was fished along the Horse and Jockey length. Dave Gill scored a run away win with a 7lb 8oz catch of small bream. Andy Morton finished second with 2lb 13oz while Kev Cooper came third with a 2lb 7oz catch. Jack Harrison and Hollist broke out at speed down the left and although Walsall managed to scramble the ball out by the corner flag, Harrison’s quickly taken long throw bounced invitingly for Earls.

He hooked it over his shoulder and into the top corner to cue wild home celebrations.

With a minute to go, a Walsall Wood neat flick finally got through the dogged Road defence and their number 10 Max Loveridge was able to slot it past the advancing Highland, for the cruellest of defeats for Leicester Road. Tolley just Highland’s
