Juniors make smart start to season with their society kits
A JUNIOR football team in Hinckley has kicked off the new season in a new kit sponsored by the town’s building society.
Hinckley Town Juniors Football Club’s Under-7s Whites team is now donning shirts with the Hinckley and Rugby Building Society logo.
The eight-strong squad of boys aged five and six are taking part in the five-a-side Leicester and District Mutual Football League.
They got off to a roaring start with a 5-3 win.
The Whites is one of three Hinckley Town under-7s teams, alongside the Reds and the Blues.
The team’s coach, Darrell Walker, said: “The match kit is really important.
“For us to have a sponsor with the credibility of Hinckley and Rugby Building Society and its strong local links is superb. Every single one of the boys and their parents were saying how smart they look.
“It was lovely to start the season with a win, but more importantly all the boys are having fun and playing with a smile on their faces.”
All the boys in the squad are from Hinckley or Burbage and go to schools in the area.
Carla Loughrey is assistant marketing and PR manager at Hinckley and Rugby.
She said: “We’re now huge supporters of the team and we wish them a very enjoyable season of training and playing together.
“As a local building society we are very proud of our roots. It’s great we could help a grassroots football club which is giving local children the opportunity to build their confidence, be active and enjoy working together through sport.”
The building society recently moved into its new head office in the town’s former magistrates court on Upper Bond Street.
The new centre covers almost 20,000 sq ft of floor space and is a third bigger than the previous one.
