New Baron set to open in next two weeks

Owner promises sensible prices for the community pub

LOYAL fans of the former Wetherspoon pub The Baron of Hinckley don’t have long to wait until their local reopens under new management.

The revamped venue will feature new carpets and repainted walls, along with a competitively priced menu including two new ales created for the venture and a host of meal deals.

New boss Nirad Solanki, of Elmesthorpe Brewery Company, hopes to have the popular place on Regent Street up and running again in the next few weeks.

It will be open with its fresh look on either Monday October 21 or Monday October 28. “Hinckley town centre has nothing to worry about. We are here to be the centre point of the community and a pub to meet people of all walks of life,” Nirad said.

“We are going to be Hinckley’s biggest community pub. We are here to attract anyone we can. We offer honest, sensible prices.”

Deals will include burger and chips with a drink for £4.99, with choices of beef, grilled chicken or a veggie burger.

Many of the meals on the menu come with a soft drink and can be upgraded to an alcoholic drink for an extra £1.

Fried breakfasts start at £3.49, including egg, bacon, Cumberland sausage, beans, tomato, a hash brown, toast and butter, with a larger version with double the portions for £5.55.

A coffee machine with unlimited refills will also be available and there are plans to create a modern cocktail menu.

All beers except cask ales on the menu are less than £2.99, with many tipples on Mondays available for £1.99, including Carlsberg, John Smith’s, Carling, Foster’s and Strongbow.

The signature beers being created by Nirad’s brewery business for the pub are the Hansom Ale and the Baron’s Best Bitter.

Customers can mix things up with a choice of Baron Bowls, available at three for £10.49, with options including mozzarella sticks or green peppers.

The major works have included installing new beer pipes and repairs to the roof, with new television screens also being put in.

The bar area has been given a fresh copper look as a layer of penny pieces has been glued all the way along its 13 metre surface.

Dogs will be allowed at the front of the pub, with some bowls put out for four-legged friends.

Nirad said: “We want to be based locally.

“We’re a husband and wife team and we are a small family business. Each of our pubs has its own identity.”

He and his wife Payal also own the Dog House bar in Braunstone Gate, Leicester, and The Bulls Head in Stoney Stanton.

They also have pubs in Rugby and Gloucestershire and two bars in the Czech Republic.

Wetherspoon decided to leave the Baron in late September as the lease was up on the venue.

The chain’s boss, Tim Martin, said in December 2018 that he hopes to open another pub in Hinckley over the next two or three years.
